Labradorite Gemstone Greek Komboloi Worry Beads
Calling it “firestone” because of its captivating play of color, the Native Indians of Labrador attributed mystical qualities to labradorite, using the powdered gem as a magical potion to cure their ailments. Interestingly, some modern mystics believe that labradorite is a gem that assists the practice of magic, unleashes the power of the imagination and helps to overcome personal limitations.
Although labradorite has not been produced synthetically, the highly distinctive appearance of its dark smoke variety can be confused with larvikite, a potassic feldspar of Norwegian origin. Predominately used in facades and for other building purposes, larvikite is also know as “blue granite” and where necessary, can be distinguished from labradorite by its density.
Though the origin of worry beads may have been as prayer beads made by Greek Orthodox monks, modern worry beads have no religious significance. “Komboloi” is the Greek name for the worry beads which comes from the word for “prayer rope.” There also are some superstitious significance to different types of beads that may be included in the worry beads.
Traditionally, only men carried Greek worry beads. However, they are used by men and women now. Some worry beads made in Greece are designed to be sold to tourists. A trip to Greece is not necessary to find these gorgeous beads. These collectible beads can be found for sale on the internet and in some jewelry stores.
There will be some color difference between the real items and the pictures because of the brightness, contrast and resolution or other factors. Thus, the color difference is inevitable to some extent.

Solidly made. High quality tassel. String is not long enough to do more than a basic flip, but probably to heavy a stone for that anyway. Pretty stones but less than half have significant labradorescence, so a little diminished as a decoration. Don’t get me wrong. An attractive piece, just not fully what I expected. Especially compared with multiple other purchases from beaded garden with which I’m very happy.
